Google announced on Monday that it would be launching the highly anticipated Pages program for Google+.
“So far Google+ has focused on connecting people with other people,” reads a post on Google’s official blog.
“But we want to make sure you can build relationships with all the things you care about—from local businesses to global brands—so today we’re rolling out Google+ Pages worldwide.”
Much of the gripe with the Google-based social network has been its lack of pages for businesses and companies. While the circles and hangout features have been hits with users, the lack of a Pages program for brands has been glaring.
It’s been hard for Google+ to be viewed as a serious competitor to Facebook when it’s been lacking an integral part of the social network’s appeal to businesses.
However, many now believe that coupled with Google’s +1 button and the new Pages program, Google+ has some serious potential in the world of marketing.
With +1 buttons becoming more and more prevalent in each piece of content, picture, or video posted on the Web each day, Google+ gives marketers the unique opportunity to see the direct correlation between their advertising efforts and the content they create.
So with an estimated 40 million users and a new Pages program, is Google+ ready to make a late year run?
